Sofia Goggia, news ahead of Kranjska Gora giant slalom
Sofia Goggia enters the giant’s second merit group
It is no mystery that Sofia Goggia has reserved part of her preparation to improve her performance in the giant slalom and the effort is paying off in terms of results and not only: in fact, thanks to top 10 placings in the specialty, the athlete from Bergamo enters the second merit group and will be able to count, already in Kranjska Gora next January 6, on a more favorable bib.
After the update of the merit groups, in fact, Goggia's name appears in 16th place but the ranking takes into account the presence of Tessa Worley, who retired at the end of the 2022-23 season: this means that Goggia enters the small group from 8 to 15 and will therefore be able to wear one of these bibs.
In the first group of merit, from 1 to 7, there are (and confirm their presence) Federica Brignone, third in the ranking, and Marta Bassino, two positions moreù behind. This season, the Valle d’Aosta è has already scored twice in the specialty, winning the die giants on Mont Tremblant, Canada.
Sofia Goggia, on the other hand, is working her way to even better results in the giant slalom, after dominating the sprints with four specialty titles in the downhill. However, the Bergamo native closed the first part of the season with a success in Super-G in St. Moritz (Dec. 8), a second place, also on the Swiss snows, in downhill (Dec. 9) and a third place in Val d'Isere, again in Super-G (Dec. 17).
