Trento unstoppable, Monza overwhelmed

The resumption of hostilitiesà in SuperLega Credem Banca allows Itas Trentino men to immediately regain the feeling of victory. In fact, this evening the Italian Champion lineup conquered its sixteenth success in seventeen matches played in the 2023/24 regular season, conquering the very court of that Mint Vero Volley Monza that seven days earlier had forced it to stop in the Italian Cup semifinal.

At the Opiquad Arena, the Gialloblù won clearly 3-0, momentarily escaping to +6 in the standings over the first pursuer Perugia, which on Sunday will be able to try to recompose the Trentino breakaway attempt by going hunting for points on Piacenza’s court. The redemption of Fabio Soli’s team è arrived in a peremptory and convincing manner. From the very first exchanges, Itas Trentino proved to be in an evening of grace, not only in attack (62% with just three errors), but also in the break point phase, offering throughout the match a wall and a service (fundamentals both scoring seven times) of great quality. Monza lost contact immediately in each set, trying to put up more resistance in the last two partials, without, however, ever giving the’impression of being able to withstand the frenzied pace of the tricolors, always pushed ahead by a sumptuous Michieletto (mvp and best scorer with 18 points, 2 walls, 2 ace and 67% offensive), an extremely practical Rychlicki (13 with 69%) and a central pair Kozamernik and Podrascanin who left no chance untried above the net.

Match report. The starting six did not differ one iota from those presented by the two coaches seven days earlier in Bologna for the Italian Cup semifinal. Itas Trentino comes to Monza’s Opiquad Arena with Sbertoli at the setter, Rychlicki opposite, Lavia and Michieletto setters, Podrascanin and Kozamernik at center, Laurenzano free. Mint Vero Volleyball still has to do without Takahashi and thus responds with Kreling at setter, Szwarc opposite, Loeppky and Maar setters, Galassi and Di Martino center, Gaggini libero. The gialloblù è start was convincing: within a few exchanges Trento ran away (5-2 and 7-3) thanks to a Michieletto immediately very effective at the net. The Mint tried to get into the game with Szwarc (9-6), but the Italian Champions pushed it back with Kozamernik’s wall on the same Canadian opposite player (13-9). Later, Rychlicki hits hard from the nine-meter line, facilitating the guests’ breakaway (17-9); in the final, Itas Trentino runs rampant with Sbertoli serving (22-12), closing the account with an ace by the same setter on 25-12.

The’balance in the second partial lasts only until 6-6, then Lavia on serve and Kozamernik at the wall put pressure on the opponents (9-6). Monza suffers in reception, Trento takes advantage of this to mark the break point phase excellently and increase its speed (from 11-8 to 15-9), without getting caught again, because all the gialloblù players are inspired at the wall and in the reconstructed phase (20-13, 22-15 and 25-17), with a special mention for Michieletto, unstoppable from place 4 on the diagonal.

At 2-0 outside, the match became more tightly contested; Monza tried to exert maximum effort to stay on track, but Itas Trentino brought the tear once again at 6-6 with Michieletto (9-6). The Italian Champions ran with personality toward 3-0: Rychlicki è devastating at the net (13-9), also well backed by Lavia (16-9). Eccheli has already spent all the time-outs at his disposal made a few changes, without finding the key to turn a game that the tricolors bring home already on 25-17 with the usual Michieletto to lead his.

“I am particularly happy with the team’s performance, becauseé the elimination in the Italian Cup semifinals just against Monza could have been a bad blow to absorb – said at the end of the match the coach of’Itas Trentino Fabio Soli – ; tonight instead we immediately turned the page as this group always did after a defeat. We put everything we had on the court, playing with great compactness and effectively in all fundamentals. There’è was the competitive nastiness that was needed to win such a game and to restart in a season that so far has still given us so much. We must look ahead with lucidityà and certainty in the means at our disposal”.

L’Itas Trentino will return already in the night in Trento and from Monday afternoon will begin to prepare the next appointment scheduled for Saturday, February 10 in Catania at 18.30, when it will play the advance television (live RAI Sport) of the eighteenth round of SuperLega Credem Banca 2023/24 at home of Farmitalia.
