Egonu and the Azzurre win first place in Pool E and confirm themselves among the favorites for the final victory

Splendid victory for Italy at the Women’s Volleyball World Cup: Mazzanti’s team put up a majestic performance in Rotterdam, downing China 3-0 with the partials of 26-24; 25-16; 25-20 and clinching first place in Pool E, ahead of the quarterfinals scheduled from next week.

Our girls overcame the highly-rated Chinese thanks to great defense and the strength of Paola Egonu, who scored an impressive 27 points. Anna Danesi (12 points) also did well. The only jarring note was the absence of Cristina Chirichella, due to a physical problem, the extent of which will be evaluated in the coming hours.

Tuesday the quarterfinal in Apeldoorn against the fourth in the standings among Brazil, Japan, Belgium and China itself.
