Pesaro loses narrowly to Scafati, Meo Sacchetti’s regret

Carpegna Prosciutto Basket Pesaro in the match of the 19th day of Serie A comes close to victory: against Givova Scafati at the Beta Ricambi Arena – PalaMangano the success è of the hosts, 83-82 at the end of a really intense final and among some controversy for some dubious refereeing choices.

Coach Meo Sacchetti – without captain Matteo Tambone due to a back problem – sends Cinciarini, Bamforth, Ford, McDuffie and Totè into the quintet, while coach Boniciolli fields Robinson, Pinkins, Mouaha, Rivers and Gamble.

The match opens with McDuffie’s bomb and Ford’s bomb: Scafati responds with Rivers, on the other side Tot’makes his presence felt under the basket while McDuffie’s dunk at 3′ is worth 7-12. The first timeout of the evening is called by Givova but è again Leonardo scores from mid-range for the host +5. McDuffie scores at the end of a’excellent personal action, Bamforth places the triple of the’11-21 that forces coach Boniciolli to a new minute of suspension at 4’01” from the first siren. The hosts respond with a break featuring newcomer Blakes: the first quarter ends 16-24.

The second ten minutes of the game start with Robinson’s two points and Rossato’s basket: the Campani get back in touch with the triple of number 18 but Carpegna Prosciutto Basket Pesaro retaliates. Bamforth’s 2/2 is worth 35-40 at the 18′, Visconti from long distance threads the Pesaro +5. It goes on point to point, with a lot of intensity: at’halftime the scoreboard è on 40-44.

The second half ignited with Totès basket for 42-49 at the 23′: Leonardo with two free throws brought the red-and-whites to +9 and then to +11. Rivers from three and Pinkins ignite the PalaMangano crowd: coach Sacchetti calls timeout with 4’56” to the end of the third quarter on 47-53, then Ford places the +9 bomb. Givova è again lì with Gentile, Pesaro responds with Bluiett’s bomb at the end of the period that repeats for 55-62. The’last basket of the quarter è by Cinciarini (56-64).

The last ten minutes began with Nunge’s two free throws and the -4 signed by Blakes. Carpegna Prosciutto Basket Pesaro scores four points in a row for +8 at the 32′. Gentile lights up even more ù and Givova è again at -4 but è again Bluiett to place a really heavy bomb, and then also sign a three-point play that makes it 66-74. Scafati countered and with a 5-0 partial (Robinson’s triple and Nunge’s dunk) at 5’23” from the end è back to -3. Timeout for coach Sacchetti, Cinciarini responds to the heavy shot of the’former Pesaro player for 74-77, answered by Nunge’s three-point play. Bluiett comes up with a sensational triple as time expires, Gentile from mid-range è a certainty. Nunge from underneath backs up for the 81-80, McDuffie takes Tot&egraveè with 1’22” to go. The referees let it slide on some intense Givova defense that with 18 seconds left è on’83-80. Timeout for the Pesaro bench: Blakes commits his fifth foul against Cinciarini who makes 2/2 at the lunette. Another timeout, this time asked by Scafati with 11 seconds to go to the buzzer: fifth foul also for Ford who sends Pinkins to the lunette who misses both free throws. Givova è more è quicker in rebounding but loses the ball: with six seconds and six tenths to the end the referees at the instant replay assign the throw-in to the Pesaresi who try to find – first with McDuffie and then with Visconti – the victory basket but without succeeding. The match ends 83-82 for the hosts while Carpegna Prosciutto remains at 10 in the standings.

At the end of the match this is Coach Meo Sacchetti’s analysis: “This è a defeat that hurts us; it was an important opportunity since we saw some steps forward. We hope to have this anger for the next games as well. I do not want to talk about the’refereeing, referees do their job and there’è who should judge their actions”.
