Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, Nigel Mansell makes comparison
Nigel Mansell has his say on Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari
It has now been a few days since the officialization of the move, from the 2025 season, of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari but the echo of the news è still strong. To welcome the news, for which fans and industry insiders have already started a countdown that will last a year è Nigel Mansell, 1992 F1 world champion nonché former Ferrari driver.
"I hear some people say Lewis is too old, I don't think you are old at 39. I won the World Championship at that age and I would have been driving for several more years if it were not for other issues" said the 'Lion of England' during a speech he gave to 'BBC' comparing his own experience to that of the seven-time world champion.
"If Hamilton can keep his inner fire,” Mansell added, “he will be able to have yet more good seasons. As far as I am concerned, the fact that he is going to Ferrari for me è wonderful, I imagine that he will go and finish his career: he is fulfilling his dream of becoming a Ferrari driver".
Mansell, born in 1953, è was active in Formula 1 as a driver between 1980 and 1992, driving for Lotus, Williams, Ferrari (in the 1989 and 1990 seasons) and Williams again, where in his last year he won the World Championship. He then raced selected events between 1994 and 1995, first with Williams and then with McLaren: in between two seasons in the Indy Car Series, a championship he won in 1993.
