Simone Fontecchio goes to join Danilo Gallinari at Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Piatons are filling up with Italians: after taking Danilo Gallinari from the Washington Wizards, there’è in fact the agreement with the Utah Jazz for the arrival in Michigan of Simone Fontecchio.
According to reports from ESPN, the Jazz are getting Kevin Knox, a 2024 second-round pick, via Washington, and the rights to another Italian player, Gabriele Procida, who currently plays for Alba Berlin.
The Pistons picked up Fontecchio to re-sign him in the summer at a suitable figure when he is a restricted free agent. In two years at Utah, the 28-year-old Pescara-born small forward made 102 appearances, including 40 as a starter, averaging 18.9 minutes, 7.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
His averages this season have risen to 23.2 minutes played, 8.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 50 games, 34 of them as a starter. The’last time two Italians played together in the same franchise was in 2009-2010, with Andrea Bargnani and Marco Belinelli together with the Toronto Raptors.
