Mikaela Shiffrin raises voice after Sofia Goggia’s injury
The words of Mikaela Shiffrin
After yet another injury in the world of skiing, that of Sofia Goggia, Mikaela Shiffrin (who herself ended up knocked out during this cursed season) vented herself in a long post on Instagram."First of all, thank you so much to everyone for your support, è really very important for me and Aksel Kilde".
"Secondly, I want to talk about the number of injuries that have occurred lately and send my best wishes to all those who are currently unable to compete. This is ski racing and sì, we choose to take the risk every time we push from the starting gate, but the number of injuries, especially among top athletes, this year è has been staggering. È much has been said about this and I absolutely agree with those who have called for better consideration of the needs of top athletes. Both from the point of view of the race calendar and the management of the evening program after them,” Shiffrin stressed. È it is quite difficult to put into words what the needs are for athletes who are in the top 15 in multiple disciplines and constantly on the podium. As Aksel recently mentioned, in addition to the race calendar in sé, with media meetings and award ceremonies going on until the afternoon, having such a busy schedule even in the evening è really too much. I am absolutely convinced that fatigue at this point in the season plays a role in the injuries we have seen lately, including mine”.
"Finally, although I feel better every day and am making good progress, I will not beò in Andorra this weekend. All this hurts me becauseé I have so many special memories in Soldeu, but my knee still can’t handle the load of a race. I just need some’ more time to heal and recover. As I have already said, there was no major ligament damage and the structure inside the knee joint seems to be in good condition. Basically what we are treating è a sprain of the anterior cruciate ligament, a sprain of the tibio-peroneal ligaments, in addition to the bone contusion I already had earlier this season in Levi. I suffered a lot of stress all over my leg when I fell and pulled a lot of things that continue to cause pain, although it is getting better every day! The fact that everything is structurally intact è super positive, but I still have to be patient. There’è a lot at stake this season, but è so è for all seasons as well. I want to make sure my knee is strong and that I am fully capable of being at my best when I return to the gate. Every day the pain is getting better, the movement is becoming more solid, fluid and consistent. We are handling it well and we are always going a little bit’ moreù forward".
