Inter, another show of strength in Rome: nerazzurri try to escape
Inter downed Roma 4-2 in Saturday's 23rd-day advance and flew to +7 on Juventus. The Nerazzurri, down 2-1 at halftime at the Stadio Olimpico, overturned the result in the second half thanks to Thuram and Bastoni and strengthened their first position in Serie A. De Rossi’s team thus stops after three consecutive victories: for the former Giallorossi midfielder it was his first loss on the Capitoline bench.
Spectacular first half affected by heavy rain. Inter unlocked the result on 17'on the development of a corner thanks to a header by Acerbi after Lukaku's ineffective clearance. Roma reacted and on 28' found the equalizer with Mancini, who was good at getting in with a header on the free kick taken by Pellegrini. The pace was very intense, and in the final part of the half the hosts on the counterattack struck again surprising the Nerazzurri defense: on 44' Pellegrini served El Shaarawy who with a powerful left-footer did not give Sommer a chance, slipping the ball into the seventh.
It was a completely different Inter at the beginning of the second half: Inzaghi’s team regained compactness and in seven minutes overturned the challenge. The great protagonist è Thuram: at 49' the French striker inserted himself on Darmian’s cross and pierced Rui Patricio for the 2-2. At 56' Thuram causes the own goal that puts the Nerazzurri back ahead: on Mkhitaryan’s cross, Angelino in a desperate attempt to anticipate the Frenchman puts the ball into his own goal.
Roma tried to fight back, while Inter tried to contain the capitolini's reaction but went into clear misery. At 70'Lukaku has a good chance, but Sommer defuses it. Ten minutes later the newly entered Baldanzi tries unsuccessfully, inaccurately.
Roma lively in the final part of the match with the new entrants, but no particular dangers come from Sommer’s sides. And in the recovery comes instead the deadly Inter counterattack to close the game, finalized by Bastoni on an assist from Lautaro Martinez.
