FISI technical director Gianluca Rulfi has summoned eight Azzurre for the three-day Women’s World Cup on the slope at Crans Montana, Switzerland: Federica Brignone, Marta Bassino, Roberta Melesi, Teresa Runggaldier, Vicky Bernardi, Nicol Delago, Nadia Delago and Laura Pirovano. On the Mont Lachaux slope, they begin Friday, Feb. 16 with a downhill at 10:30 a.m., followed Saturday, Feb. 17 by another downhill at 10:30 a.m., closing Sunday, Feb. 18 with a supergiant at 10:30 a.m. Two practice days, set for Wednesday, Feb. 14 and Thursday, Feb. 15.
Italy boasts eight victories in history in the Swiss resort, equally divided between Sofia Goggia and Federica Brignone. The Bergamasque skier è won in the downhill in 2023, twice in 2021 and 2019 and è finished third in the downhill in 2022, the Valle d’Aosta native won four times in the combined in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, going on the podium with second place in 2023 in the downhill, in 2021 she was third in the super-giant and in 2017 she was second again in the combined. The overall ranking sees Lara Gut-Behrami leading with 1214.5 more points than Mikaela Shiffrin, Brignone è third with 928. The downhill ranking sees Goggia with 350 points, behind chase Venier with 261 and Gut with 209. In super-giant Gut-Behrami leads with 320 points, followed by Huetter with 310 and Brignone with 246.
