Lisa Vittozzi in history: gold medal at the World Biathlon Championships!

Lisa Vittozzi in the history of the Italian biathlon: the 29-year-old from Sappada won the gold medal in the women’s individual race at the World Championships in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. The Carabinieri, already silver in the pursuit on Sunday, signed a splendid feat, becoming the second Italian to hit the target after Dorothea Wierer.

Vittozzi è was infallible at the range, hitting 20 out of 20 shots, despite a shudder at the first shooting zone when she lost 15 seconds to a problem with her carbine. But today there was none for anyone, the Azzurra, who added speed on skis to her precision in shooting, left her opponents no chance: Germany’s Hettich-Waltz è finished second at over 20 seconds, third place for France’s Julia Simon, almost 30 seconds behind.

For Lisa Vittozzi è it was the 10th career medal in a World Championships, the first gold in an individual format. Only Wierer è managed to achieve a similar feat, in Antholz in 2020. "I am proud of myself, I am on top of the world", she said after the race.

The other Azzurra Dorothea Wierer, weighed down by two missed shots, è placed 14th. Samuela Comola è finished 22nd and Rebecca Passler 74th.
