The passing of Andreas Brehme shocked his former teammates

The passing, at only 63 years of age, of Andreas Brehme has shocked the entire soccer world and especially those who, together with Brehme, won the historic Scudetto of records, that is, the footballers and management of Inter 1988/89. From Beppe Bergomi to Walter Zenga, via the then president, Ernesto Pellegrini, there were many messages of condolence after the sad announcement.

Andreas Brehme, the grief of Beppe Bergomi and Walter Zenga

"Andy è was a true comrade, a beautiful person on the field and off it – are the words of Bergomi caught by 'Sport Mediaset'. We had a special relationship, I was very close to him. We will miss him a lot. I had to see him a few days ago for Inter-Salernitana, he had called me. He then usually always gets in touch the day before but this time he didn’t call. I didn’t know anything about his condition, they talk about cardiac arrest. I can only say that è he was a true comrade, a beautiful person on the field and off".

Walter Zenga instead entrusted his remembrance to his own Instagram profile: "Hello My Friend, or as I used to call you 'shazzy', you didn’t have to do this to me, you didn’t have to do this to all of us. You left too soon My Friend but I know that from up there you will protect us and as usual you will put on your lì and shoot the penalties one with your right and one with your left. Have a good trip My Friend, Rest In Peace, I won’t tell you I’m crying because I know you would hug me and say 'come on Walter I’m here'. Hi Andy".

Ernesto Pellegrini remembers Brehme with emotion

L'former president Pellegrini dedicated a thought to Brehme while speaking with 'La Repubblica': "I feel a great sorrow. We lose a special person, and the greatest left-back in Inter history since Giacinto Facchetti. He had it all: touch of the ball, dribbling and crosses. I still have in my eyes the wonder of his high balls for Aldo Serena‘s head. Andy called me a few days before Inter-Salernitana. We were really very close. He did so much for our club and I remember the joy of seeing him triumphant at the Italian World Cup".
