Kouamé hospitalized, contracted malaria
Fiorentina striker Christian Kouamé has contracted malaria during the African Cup of Nations. This was announced by the purple club itself, via an official statement: "ACF Fiorentina announces that, following the appearance of fever and general malaise on the night of Feb. 20-21, footballer C. Kouamé è was tested in the morning of today to assess a possible malarial infection, to which è resulted positive".
"The footballer è was hospitalized for appropriate treatment and will be reevaluated in the coming days" concludes the note from the Tuscan club. Recovery time has not been defined becauseé it will depend on the'evolution of the disease.
Kouamé, fresh winner of the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast, è returned to Florence last Saturday, but had not been summoned by coach Vincenzo Italiano for last Sunday s trip to Empoli. The Ivorian striker was expected to rejoin the group just this afternoon to train with his teammates ahead of the post-match against Lazio, after the two days of rest granted by the Viola coach.
