From his brother Adriano to Jannik Sinner: Claudio Panatta takes a stab at Italian tennis
Claudio Panatta has his say on Jannik Sinner and beyond
The successes of Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open and in Rotterdam, Italy reigning champion in theDavis Cup, the women’s movement rejoicing over Jasmine Paolini champion in Dubai: there is no doubt that Italian tennis is living a magical moment, not only in terms of results but also in terms of popularity. A moment that, as Claudio Panatta explained to 'The T Quotidiano' should be exploited to further strengthen the racket movement in the Bel Paese.
Claudio Panatta: "Jannik Sinner a tow for boys and girls"
"The’increase in enrollment at Italian tennis schools è exponential – explained the brother of Adriano Panatta, also a former tennis player -. Sinner is a driving force for many boys and girls who are approaching our sport through emulation. For years we at Tennis Parioli have been full, and we now have 80-100 boys and girls on the waiting list to join our school".
There has often been talk, in recent months, about the blue best ranking, no longer of Adriano Panatta but now the prerogative of Sinner himself: "It has been so many years (since he stopped playing, ed.), Adriano è nice and calm and relaxed. At 74 years old, I really don³’t think he³’s standing there thinking about such things".
"Sinner canò only go up, but è already number 3"
For Claudio Panatta, ten years younger than Adriano on the ID card, Jannik Sinner can only go up: "But not that much, only by two positions, since he è already the number 3 in the world…eh – he pointed out. He's anincredible talent, è determined, è very mature for his age; and he knows what he wants;we are all rooting for him, an intelligent and polite boy who everyone likes the way he behaves".
"Unfortunately, in Italy one just waits for someone to make mistakes in order to lash out at him; Tough days will come for Sinner as well, becauseé tennis è a sport where you are always on the edge, but as of now I say that one should not make a big deal out of it. He will be able to overcome them" said Adriano Panatta’s younger brother again.
