Eight summoned for the race weekend in Norway
Federica Brignone, Marta Bassino and the other Italian alpine skiers are preparing for the last weekend of the World Cup dedicated to speed, before the finals in Saalbach scheduled after mid-March. This weekend it is raced in Norway, in Kvitfjell: on Saturday, March 2, the downhill is held, twenty-four hours later it will be the turn of the Super-G.

There are eight athletes summoned by technical director Gianluca Rulfi for the events on the Olympiabakken track: in addition to Federica Brignone and Marta Bassino, who have already climbed the highest step of the podium this CdM season, there will be Laura Pirovano, Roberta Melesi, Teresa Runggaldier, Nicol Delago, Nadia Delago and Sara Thaler.
The venue for Saturday and Sunday's races was the scene of only one victory by an Italian athlete, Karen Putzer, in the 2003 super-giant. Sofia Goggia (a big absentee this year due to serious injury) è instead, she stepped onto the podium in 2023, taking second place in the downhill, the same position asElena Curtoni in the super-giant. Going further back in time, more precisely to 1996, the placings of Isolde Kostner, second in the downhill and third in the Super-G, are noted instead.
All in pursuit of Lara Gut-Behrami
As for the general women’s World Cup standings, with eight races to go there'è Lara-Gut Behrami in the lead with 1414 points, followed by Mikaela Shiffrin’s 1209 and Federica Brignone’s 1128. Gut-Behrami also leads the super-giant standings with 360 points (Brignone è third at 326) and the downhill standings with 369 points (Sofia Goggia è second with 350 but will not be able to advance from here to the end of the season).
Weekend of training for slalomists
At the same time as the note presenting the eight summoned for Kvitfjell, the Italian Winter Sports Federation also informed that the coach in charge Roberto Lorenzi has summoned Martina Peterlini, Marta Rossetti, Beatrice Sola and Lara Della Mea for the rsquo;slalomists’ training scheduled in Toblach (Bolzano) from Tuesday, Feb. 27 to Friday, March 1, in preparation for the race in Are (Sweden) on Sunday, March 10.
