Volleyball, Women’s Champions League: Milan and Conegliano fly to semifinals
Two Italian teams in the semifinals in the women’s Champions League
It's a more than satisfying February 29 for Italian volleyball, which celebrated the qualification to the Champions League semifinals of Vero Volley Milano and Imoco Volley Conegliano. Both teams started from an advantageous position against their respective opponents, Lodz and Vakifbank Istanbul, and did not betray expectations in the return match.
On the strength of the 3-1 win in the first leg in Poland, Vero Volleyball did not particularly struggle in the return match played at Milan's Allianz Cloud, winning 3 sets to 0 with partials of 25-21, 25-14, 25-23. As for the scoreboard, raphaela Folie’s 13 points stood out, in addition to the 10 scored by Paola Egonu, Kara Bajema and Laura Heyrman. In contrast, the 15 points, on the other side, of the Italian Valentina Diouf were of no use.
At the PalaVerde in Villorba (Treviso), the party in tricolor sauce continued with Conegliano, able to regulate 3-1 (20-25, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16) the now defending champions of Vakifbank. Best scorer Isabelle Haak scored 19 points, Kathryn Plummer 16, Sarah Fahr 15 and Kelsey Robinson 13. On the other side were Gabi's 13 points.
The semifinal matches will be played on March 12 and 19, barring any last-minute changes by the organizers: Conegliano will face the Turkish Eczacibasi team, which defeated Scandicci in the quarterfinals (double 3-2), while Milan will face Fenerbahce, which beat Stuttgart by winning the return match 3-1 after losing the first leg 2-3.
