F1, Max Verstappen did not expect pole
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen commented on the pole position he got right away in the first official qualifying session of the Formula 1 season in Sakhir. The world champion admitted that he did not expect to start from the first place: "Honestly è it was a bit’ unexpected, forò fortunately the car in qualifying è went better than we expected".
"È it was a lot of fun actually. I looked for grip on the track, but with the wind of the last few days è it was complicated to put the lap together. The same è it was in qualifying, in Q1 and Q2, although then you go faster with the track gradually improving. Pulling everything out in Q3 è it was però moreù difficult. Obviously I am very happy".
"There’was so much to optimize in the car to find the perfect balance, and with the wind it was not possible, but luckily we got the direction and we were able to push harder to take an extra step in qualifying. We will also be close in the race. We seem well set on the race, which è the most important thing, but we will see tomorrow. I have confidence that we can have a good race".
Verstappen took his 33rd career pole position in Bahrain, matching legends such as Prost and Clark. He's fifth all-time.
