Alberto Tomba enraptured by Thiago Motta’s Bologna

Alberto Tomba, unforgettable Italian alpine skiing star of the 1980s and 1990s, è was intercepted by the Gazzetta dello Sport at his home in Castel de’ Britti, a suburb of the Emilia capital, to ask him for his opinion on the extraordinary season that Thiago Motta’s Bologna is having.

The national Albertone, a three-time Olympic champion, two world champions and winner of the overall World Cup in 1995 and eight specialty trophies, is not an ardent fan but still follows his hometown team with affection and interest, all the more so this year as the Champions League dream is more attainable than ever, especially if five Italian teams go in the next one. Here are his words.

“È an exciting team. Have I seen any matches? I do what my mom did when I was coming down: she watched them later, I watch them later too. And then my Bologna fan friends who have my fan club tell me all about it. And every now and then, I peek. In Bergamo great victory".

“Big congratulations to Thiago Motta. We are also just below Milan, and maybe we make a leap: in these cases there’è also the superstition to be used and I see that many use it becauseé you never know. So that’s fine, the important thing è to be happy with the moment, then we will see. But I have read and heard from various quarters that maybe as many as 5 teams get to go to the Champions League this year, it depends on the so-called ranking. Well, Champions maybe, it would also be deserved for what the team is doing see. Besides the fact that it would really be a great thing".

“Going back to the stadium? There, that’s my point, I was talking to you earlier about superstition: sooner or later I will come back, I don’t think I can do it with Inter but the idea of coming to enjoy some beautiful soccer that this Bologna can offer, well, there’è. Apart from anything else I am delighted both for the team and for the city’which is getting back to experiencing good things in sports. My friends have all gone crazy with joy but now we need to continue like this;. Good guys, now we need to continue like thisì. Pause. Becauseé winning è beautiful but the difficulty; è continue to win, è known".
