Frederic Vasseur reveals when he thought about bringing Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari
That between Frederic Vasseur and Lewis Hamilton è a love that è blossomed some 20 years ago in the minor categories and that è never waned. That’s whyé the Frenchman, who since last year è theteam principal of Ferrari, has decided to bring the British seven-time Formula 1 world champion to the Maranello house.
Hamilton’s landing in red will take place only in 2025 and Vasseur told in an interview with RMC Sport when he decided that his former protégé Lewis should start working with him again, despite the fact that Hamilton was born and raised with Mercedes as a driver already when he made his debut in the Circus in 2007 with the McLaren powered by the German manufacturer. Here are Vasseur’s words reported by formulapassion.co.uk.
“Lewis drove for me about twenty years ago in F3 and GP2. We won titles together and have remained close over the years. I had this in mind for a long time but it didn’t make sense to imagine Lewis Hamilton driving for Sauber [which Vasseur managed in F1 before coming to Ferrari, ed.] Forò there’è was a moment when the planets aligned: me coming to Ferrari and him at the end of his contract with Mercedes”.
“I think we both had a desire to work together again and Lewis had this desire to drive for Ferrari. I think sooner or later all drivers want to do that. Then there’è was the right opportunity, but I won’t provide the details of the discussions”.
