Jannik Sinner shifts gears and wins first set against Kokkinakis
Jannik Sinner won the first set of his match against Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament. The Italian tennis player è won 6-3 on the U.S. concrete after a start to the match that was anything but smooth, which actually saw the world number three in trouble for several games.
In the early stages, Sinner struggled in response, and suffered from the Australian's serve, which was very solid especially in the early games, so much so that the Italian was initially unable to find the right counter. On the other hand, the South Tyrolean suffered a bit in serve, cancelling a break point in the fifth game.
Then the winner of the last Australian Open took the measure of his opponent and shifted gears: in the eighth game he wrested the serve from Kokkinakis, and in the ninth he closed quickly on serve, ending the 54-minute partial on a crescendo.
