Tirreno-Adriatico, first time for Jonas Vingegaard: “I am very happy”
The words of Jonas Vingegaard
Jonas Vingegaard won the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, which runs from Torricella Sicura to Valle Castellana and is 144km long. The Danish cyclist, bearer of Team Visma | Lease a Bike, was 1'12" ahead of Juan Ayuso and Jai Hindley, at the end of a real solo. This is the first victory in the Tirreno-Adriatico for Vingegaard, who also becomes the new blue jersey.
"I knew that I had prepared well for the Tirreno-Adriatico and that my form was good,” he told the official RCS Sport channels. In time trial my numbers had been good so I was not unhappy with my performance. I always had confidence in myself and in my team, otherwise we would not have done what we did today".
"Tomorrow è the big day, but also today there was an opportunity and I like to take opportunities when they are there. Stage win and overall lead, I am very happy. Part of the Tour de France team è with me now, but Cian [Uijtdeboreks] and Attila [Valter] will do the Giro. Whether it’s Giro or whether it’s Tour, our team è always strong" concluded Vingegaard.
