Jasmine Paolini dominated Tathiana Maria with a net 6-3, 6-3 at the BNP Paribas Open, the third WTA 1000 tournament of the season, held in Indian Wells with a prize pool of $9,258,080. This victory moved Paolini into the third round for the third time in four appearances at the California tournament. The 28-year-old player, originally from Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, currently ranked 14ª in the WTA rankings and 13ª seeded, will face; Anna Kalinskaya for a place in the round of 16. Kalinskaya è was the opponent Paolini defeated in the final of the Dubai Open a few weeks ago, where she won her first WTA 1000 title and made her way into the Top 15.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto, ranked 60ª in the WTA rankings, lost to Peyton Stearns of the United States, 63º in the rankings, with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Peyton Stearns will thus be the first opponent of Aryna Sabalenka, the No. 2 in the WTA ranking and in the tournament, who reached the final twelve months ago.

Camila Giorgi, currently ranked 106º in the rankings, è was defeated in her first direct match with Czech Linda Noskova, 29ª in the rankings and 26ª in the seeding. Noskova è was a semifinalist in Brisbane this year and most importantly reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, significant achievements for her in a Slam.
