Benetton Rugby holds on to Alessandro Izekor

He is showing all his qualities in Benetton Rugby and will continue wearing the green-and-white jersey for another four years. The Veneto franchise, through a note, announced the’successful contract renewal of third line Alessandro Izekor until June 30, 2028.
Just turned 24
Alessandro Izekor, a young physical and technical flanker, è was born in Brescia, Italy on March 5, 2000 to Nigerian parents. A 196 cm x 110 kg, third line and adaptable to second line if needed, he started playing rugby at age 10 in the youth ranks of his hometown club.
L'debut with Calvisano
Until the age of 16 he alternated his appearances between Brescia and Ospitaletto, then in the summer of 2019 his debut in TOP 10 with the Calvisano jersey with which he collected 46 appearances between the national championship and Challenge Cup, also distinguishing himself for an excellent metaman instinct, considering the 19 goals he scored.
L'landing in the national team
Izekor also was part of the Italian U20 national team during the 2020 Six Nations and was part of the Emerging National Team expedition in 2021 and 2022. In the summer of 2022 he also wore the National A team jersey on two occasions, scoring a try.
Shows of Talent
The’former Calvisano has collected 3 caps with the Lions during the 2021/2022 season as a permit player, in which he showed ample flashes of his rugby talent when he had initially landed in the Ghirada to bolster the green-and-white squad.
Solid in defense
Solid on defense and agile in the open game, Izekor è one of Italy’s rising flankers. Since the summer of 2022, he has been part of the Lions’ first team with which, to date, he has made 27 appearances with five goals, including three (three in the URC and two in the Challenge Cup) in the first half of the current season.
Physically powerful

Distinctive trait of Izekor è his wide stride running in which he unleashes all the physical power he è possesses. To this he adds a relevant constancy in defense in tackles and a notable presence in the platforms of play. Growing performances then allowed Izekor to receive a call-up from Italy coach Gonzalo Quesada in the Azzurri group at the Six Nations. He thus picked up his first 2 caps with the senior national team in challenges against England and Ireland. Izekor will defend the green-and-white colors until 2028.
