Carlos Alcaraz beats Fabian Maroszan in Indian Wells
The excellent eliminations of two bigwigs of the caliber of Novak Djokovic and Stefanos Tsitsipas could have been one more reason to think of another surprise in the Indian Wells round of 16, but Carlos Alcaraz swept away any possible doubts about his passage to the quarterfinals by getting rid of Fabian Maroszan in two sets, won 6-3, 6-3.
The Hungarian, number 58 in the ATP rankings, was not è however, he was not timid and took the first set to 3-3 before dropping two consecutive breaks to the Murcian, who was good at taking advantage of every possible opportunity. The second fraction was less balanced, with the world number 2 going to 4-2 without much effort and basically not having to look back anymore.
No surprises then, to win è Alcaraz who thus obtains his fourth consecutive victory in a singles match, after the success with Nadal in the exhibition last March 3 and the first three rounds overcome in Indian Wells, respectively against Matteo Arnaldi, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Fabian Maroszan.
Alcaraz was coming to this tournament from a series of negative results: at the Australian Open he had succumbed to Zverev in the quarterfinals, in Buenos Aires he was defeated by Jarry in the third round while in Rio he preferred to withdraw in the first match, against Monteiro, due to a physical problem.
