The women’s draw in the Indian Wells tournament sees more Italian athletes still in the running: Jasmine Paolini è in fact, she was beaten, in the round of 16 of the WTA 1000 being held in the Californian resort, by Anastasia Potapova, who overturned the unfavorable prediction dictated by a world ranking that sees her 19 positions behind the tennis player from Castelnuovo di Garfagnana (14th in the rankings, while the Russian è 33rd).

The elimination comes after a two-sets-to-one defeat

Not è sufficient a nevertheless tenacious performance by Paolini, who succumbed 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 after an hour and 48 minutes of play. Great regrets especially for the first set: the bluewoman found herself ahead 5-3, but lost four consecutive games, two of them on her own serve, with the match going uphill.

The reaction è forò vehemently and the second set è literally dominated by Paolini, who went on to win it with no games lost in just under half an hour. The third fraction started well, with the first game won without leaving any points to her opponent, who però from there, she made herself the protagonist of a counter-response that brought her to 3-1.

The match does not end here, because Paolini overflows the break that would have brought the two tennis players on 4-4, but loses the game on the advantages: Potapova, with the inertia of the match in favor, presses on the accelerator and goes to win the last two games, the second of which on the service of the Italian athlete, who must thus; surrender.
