Indian Wells, Novak Djokovic doesn’t make excuses: ‘Very bad’
Bitter defeat for the Serb who is now thinking about Miami
He had been missing for five years in Indian Wells. He wanted to do well in a tournament that has seen him win in five editions (last time in 2016). Instead, the Serb è was eliminated in the round of 16 by Nardi, a 20-year-old Italian and world No. 123. It was a bitter defeat for Djokovic who, after losing in the Australian Open semifinals to Sinner, saw his path to success blocked by another Italian.
"È entered as a lucky loser in the main draw, so he had nothing to lose and played great. He deserved to win", the Serbian’s clear words in the post match. He particularly wanted to do well in Indian Wells but his path è stopped much earlier than expected. Now, in his sights, there'è Miami where the Serb is aiming for a quick redemption.
Djokovic especially highlights his performance, which was definitely not up to the mark: "I was more surprised by my level. My level was really, really bad. I play fewer tournaments, so I am more selective with my schedule. Of course it is not è a good feeling when you leave a tournament very early, especially here. I had not played here for five years. I really wanted to do well. But it was not meant to be. You move on".
