Mercedes, Toto Wolff opens the door to Max Verstappen and more
During an interview given to the microphones of the Austrian daily "oe24", Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, among other topics discussed, è returned to talk about market rumors related to a possible farewell of Max Verstappen to Red Bull, due to the external vicissitudes related to Christian Horner. In addition, the Austrian manager also è dwelt on the consequences that could bring the permanence of his British colleague at the head of the Milton Keynes stable.
"I only read from the media what is happening at Red Bull. I think every team would like Max, because è è the strongest driver. But the best driver will always look for the best possible car, and so we have to make our car perform. Only then can we become a real alternative for Verstappen" began the Mercedes team principal.
"I think if Horner stays at Red Bull, it would definitely open up some very interesting scenarios. I don't know well enough about the dynamic there'è between Marko and Max, and I don't know how important the former was to the latter. On the rumors related to a possible farewell also from Adrian Newey, I say that everything è possible in this crazy merry-go-round therefore I would not exclude anything. The only thing that is certain è that everything will depend on Verstappen and his prospects" added the Austrian manager regarding a possible triple snatch at the Milton Keynes stable.
"I have nothing negative against Lewis, I was just surprised by the timing of the announcement of his future. But in the course of one’s career there are times when one wants or needs to try something new. In any case he will leave the seat vacant as much as possible" concluded Toto Wolff.
