Atalanta wins in comeback, Roma painless knockout: string of Italians
Italians make a run in the European Thursday evening.
Atalanta and Roma are advancing arm in arm in the Europa League, both hitting the quarterfinals on the terms of a Thursday of glory for domestic teams in continental competitions. After Champions League disappointments, in fact, Milan and Fiorentina (the latter in the Conference League) had also passed the round.
More complicated was the feat for Gian Piero Gasperini’s Nerazzurri, who were able to beat a decidedly mangy Sporting Lisbon 2-1 in Bergamo at the start and end of the game. In the first half, in fact, the Nerazzurri failed to take advantage of superiority in ball possession and chances by Scamacca, Djimsiti and Kolasinac. To score è in fact Gonçalves at 34', taking advantage of a very fast triangle with Gyokeres misread by the Atalanta defense. In the second half, however, everything changes, as early as 46' Lookman equalizes by correcting a cross from Ederson into the goal under the goal. The qualifying goal came in 59' thanks to a splendid triangulation between Miranchuk and Scamacca finalized by the latter. In the final, then, the orobici resisted the guests'assault.
For Roma, on the other hand, comes a defeat from the away match at the Brighton field, absolutely painless forò after the wide success obtained at the Olimpico. In fact, it ended 1-0 for Roberto De Zerbi's men, thanks to Welbeck's right-footed volley in the 37th minute. Earlier, after a missed chance by Azmoun, the hosts had made themselves dangerous with Gilmour, Gross and again Gilmour. In the second half more danger for the Giallorossi, with Enciso missing the goal and Svilar providential on Fati. On the hour of play Spinazzola hit the cross of the posts, then Svilar saved everything on Adingra and Fati with the result not changing any more.
