Novak Djokovic’s Forfeit

Also in this 2024, Novak Djokovic has decided to skip the Miami Masters 1000, scheduled for March 17-31. The world number one has not trod the Florida courts since 2019 and prefers to return directly to action for the Monte Carlo tournament, scheduled for April 6-14. This will be the first Masters 1000 in 2024 on clay.

Although his decision has not yet been officially confirmed, the Serbian press has already anticipated his absence. Djokovic, fresh from his defeat against Luca Nardi in the third round in Indian Wells, expressed disappointment with his current level of play.

Despite the absence in Miami, Djokovic's position at the top of the ATP ranking is not in jeopardy, as he has no points to defend in Hard Rock Stadium, having not participated in the tournament in 2023. By the time the Miami Open begins, Djokovic will have'9725 points, a score that will remain unchanged even at the end of the tournament, allowing him to maintain the lead. Jannik Sinner however playing and imposing himself in Florida will be able to gain ground in view of a possible overtaking that could also take place after Roland Garros.
