Matteo Berrettini is already looking ahead to Miami

.

After a long difficult period, Matteo Berrettini has regained more than some certainty in the last week, reaching the final of the Phoenix Challenger, then lost to Nuno Borges, after beating such good tennis players as Hugo Gaston, Arthur Cazaux and Aleksandar Vukic, three top 100s, as well as number 129 Terence Atmane.

Commenting on his social channels on what happened, the Roman tennis player, now number 142 in the ranking but with a not too distant past as a top 10 player, wrote: "It's been a positive week overall after so many months away from the tour. There'è a long way to go but I made some good steps forward, I am happy and I am going in the right direction".

"Now back to work, thank you for all the support, I really appreciate it. Now let’s think about Miami" added Berrettini looking immediately at the next goal, the Masters 1000 in Florida in which he will immediately face a tough opponent, Scotland’s Andy Murray. The two have met five times, with a balance of three wins to two for the Roman.

The last head-to-head, however, smiled on the Briton, who was able to win 6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 6-7(7), 7-6(6) a very balanced first round of the Australian Open 2023. Berrettini's last win against Murray, on the other hand, dates back to Sept. 2, 2022, when the Roman beat the circuit veteran 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-3 in the third round of the US Open two years ago.
