In the continuation of the all-Italian second-round derby of the Miami Masters 1000 interrupted yesterday by rain Jannik Sinner beat Andrea Vavassori, number 148 in the ATP rankings, with a score of 6-3 6-4. The match resumed from 3-2 with no break in Sinner’s favor and 40-40 service Vavassori immediately surrendering the serve by missing a forehand volley and a backhand from the baseline, Jannik did not take long to close out the first set surrendering only two points on his serve, including a one-meter double fault on the first of two set points.
First four games of the second set without break points but at 2-2 Sinner strung four answers on four Vavassori firsts and snatched service at zero from the 28-year-old from Turin who then saved a double break ball that would have sent the 22-year-old from Alto Adige to serve for the match at 5-2. Jannik to serve to close the file gets there at 5-4 and succeeds on the third match point after an’effective hour and 19 minutes of play between yesterday and today.
