Sven Goran Eriksson recounts his battle with cancer

Ready to return to the bench and fulfill a little big wish, namely that of coaching Liverpool (he will in fact be the coach of the Reds’ old glories in the exhibition match against the Ajax legends on Saturday at Anfield), Sven Goran Eriksson told how he is facing his toughest battle, the one against the incurable cancer he was diagnosed with in recent months.

"How am I doing? The doctors have already given their response, I want to say I feel good,” Eriksson said.

I have what I have, it is an incurable tumor and I am aware of it. It's a battle, however, I am not sitting in a corner crying. I try to live my life as I used to live it. I am undergoing treatment, there are ups and downs but for now I am standing".

"I still feel lucky,” added the Swedish technician, “becauseé all the good things I have done are being celebrated now that I am still alive. I am happy becauseé so many people are showing this kind of affection now that I am here. It may seem a bit brutal to say, but itè a true thing".

Eriksson, 76 years old last Feb. 5, è one of the most successful coaches of the last part of the last century: among the many trophies he won in Sweden, Portugal and Italy, the Scudetto won with Lazio in 2000, no less than four Italian Cups (Roma 1985-86 as technical director, Sampdoria 1993/94, Lazio 1997/98 and 1999/2000), the Uefa Cup won with IFK Goteborg in 1982 and the Cup Winners Cup at the helm of Lazio in 1999 stand out. He has also coached the national teams of England, Mexico, Ivory Coast and the Philippines.
