Deleted from the calendar of the next World Cup the Speed Opening in Zermatt-Cervinia
After the failures of this season and last season, with the cancellation of a total of four men’s and four women’s downhill races, the first time due to absolute lack of snow on the glacier and the second time due to too much snow, the International Ski Federation, Swiss Ski and the Italian Winter Sports Federation have mutually decided not to hold any World Cup discsa races on the Gran Becca in Zermatt-Cervinia after the failure of the past two seasons.
The Speed Opening website states that “even if everything were in place from an organizational point of view, there are currently so many fundamental issues affecting the future World Cup calendar that the decision was made to suspend the Matterhorn Matterhorn Matterhorn Speed Opening after careful consideration in agreement with all interested parties”.
“Since all details have not yet been clarified,” the statement continued, “communication from FIS was not expected until next week. Ultimately, it is up to the FIS Council to make the final decision and delete the races from the 2024/25” calendar.
