Miami, Griekspoor knockout: Jannik Sinner frames key to comeback
Jannik Sinner’s words after success against Tallon Griekspoor
He struggled more than expected Jannik Sinner to settle Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in the third round of the Miami Masters 1000. The South Tyrolean, in fact, after losing the first set and having to deal with the rain that suspended the match for almost an hour, managed to raise his level of tennis by winning the second partial at the tie-break and then ramping up in the third set. At the end of the match, the world number three tried to identify what were the key factors that allowed him to stay in the match and succeed in overturning the result.
"I knew more or less what to expect. I had some chances even in the first set, but he handled some moments of the match better. In the second partial I tried to be more aggressive and felt slightly better. Then è the rain came and è everything changed. I am really happy with the way I handled the situation on the court. I am happy with the win" began the South Tyrolean in the press conference.
"Sometimes you have to accept what happens. I tried to stay mentally strong. You always have to worry when you lose a set. You have to control only what you can control, as some aspects such as for example the fact that the opponent serves well in the key moments of the match do not depend on you. Today è was a good day precisely because of that, because I was in a very difficult situation and I found a way to win the match. The match è was very tough, but I was very strong mentally" added the blue number one.
"It's tough when your opponent serves so well, it's not easy to get into the exchanges. He è an amazing player and he has so many weapons at his disposal with both serve and forehand. He also plays very well at the net. I think he started the match better than I did. I tried to stay focused on my serves, but then I made a couple of mistakes when I got the break and he è was very good at capitalizing on every single opportunity " continued the world number three.
In conclusion, Jannik Sinner wanted to express an opinion on the triumphant Sunday of Italian sports, which, in addition to the victories of the various Musetti and Arnaldi, saw the success of the Italian national soccer team against Ecuador and Ferrari’s one-two finish in the Melbourne GP: "I am happy for all of Italy and for all the players and drivers. Hopefully, these results will give everyone confidence for the continuation of the season".
