Matteo Arnaldi, no go: out in Miami, misses derby

Matteo Arnaldi out in Miami: after the nice victory against Shapovalov, the San Remo tennis player took a step back and was defeated in two sets (6-3, 6-3) by the highly launched Czech Tomas Machac, current world number 60.  A disappointing performance for the Azzurro, who had approached the match well but as the minutes went by è dropped abruptly, committing several errors both at bat and in response.

The first set è ended 6-3 in 41 minutes: Machac broke in the fifth game and then held serve without any particular difficulty, against an Arnaldi not on the ball and not very lucid.

Same script in the second set: after a balanced start, Arnaldi lost his serve in the sixth game, at the crucial moment of the match. L'Azzurro è never really managed to trouble the Czech in response (zero break points) and thus è surrendered again 6-3.

No Italian derby then in Miami: in the quarterfinals Machac will face the winner of the challenge between Jannik Sinner and Australian Christopher O'Connell. Arnaldi, on the other hand, returns to Europe with the satisfaction of a career best ranking (from Monday he will enter the world top 35).
