Serious injury for Andy Murray: Wimbledon at risk

Andy Murray è seriously injured during his match against Tomas Machac, valid for the third round of the Miami Masters 1000. The Scot, in fact, in the closing stages of the match suffered a bad ankle sprain, which, however, did not prevent him from finishing the match. Instrumental examinations the next day, però showed an injury definitely more serious than expected as confirmed by the player himself on his Instagram profile.

"Towards the end of my match in Miami against Machac, I suffered a total rupture of the peroneal-astragalic ligament and an injury of the calcaneoperoneal ligament. I will see an ankle specialist when I return home to determine next steps. It's a tough thing to accept of course and he'll be out for a long time, but he'll be back with a hip and no ligaments when the time comes" this is the player's message on his Instagram profile.

The former world number one is expected to be in the pits for some time and the recovery time would not yet be estimated with certainty. Murray’s hope remains to return to the court ahead of Wimbledon, so that he can fulfill his wish to play his favorite and twice-won tournament for the last time in his career,  as the player has reportedly already admitted that in all likelihood the 2024 season will be the last of his career.
