Inter returns to winning ways: 2-0 over Empoli, Scudetto ever closer
A new victory, to move even closer to the shield.
Inter again victorious against Empoli, knocked out at the San Siro with a 2-0 win at the end of an evening less easy than expected. The Nerazzurri in any case resumed their march toward the second-star scudetto after the home draw with Napoli: the signatures of Federico Dimarco and Alexis Sanchez are now worth +14 in the standings over second-placed Milan with eight games to go in Serie A.
The evening began in the best of ways for Simone Inzaghi’s men. After a very first chance not taken advantage of by Lautaro Martinez, in fact, already at 6' comes the Nerazzurri advantage: Bastoni comes forward on the right and crosses towards Dimarco, who counter-attacks the ball with a left-footed shot that is impeccable for Caprile. The match forò remains open: Zurkowski and Gyasi make themselves dangerous, on the other side Bastoni tries, stopped forò by the post. It is then Niang and Marin who commit Audero, on the field in place of Sommer.
Inter tried to close it out immediately in the second half, but Barella and Pavard could not find the goal. Mkhitaryan and Calhanoglu were also imprecise, before Niang spooked San Siro again with a left-footed shot that hissed just past Audero’s goal post. Dimarco and Lautaro tried to close out a game that Empoli tried to keep in the balance until the end. Sanchez, who had been on the field for just a few minutes precisely in place of Lautaro, then closed it out: è he at 81'81' closed the score by correcting Dumfries's assist into the goal.
