Fear for Jonas Vingegaard at the Tour of the Basque Country
Moments of fear during the fourth stage of the Tour of the Basque Country, which goes from Etxarri Aranatz to Legutio. Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), in fact, è was the victim of a terrible fall that also involved leader Primoz Roglic (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step).
The crash è occurred 35 kilometers from the finish on a stretch of grass in a fast curve. And getting the worst of it è was the Danish star, who was immobilized for a long time and taken away in an ambulance. Also retiring were Roglic and Evenepoel: the winner of the Giro d'Italia 2023 got up only with further abrasions, while the former world champion suffered a fractured collarbone.
This serious incident caused the stage to be neutralized, until the jury decided to resume the race limited to the six breakaways in the lead, letting the rest of the group slowly reach the finish line.
