F1, Lewis Hamilton explains the new flop: there'enters Charles Leclerc
Lewis Hamilton disappoints again, once again beaten by Mercedes teammate George Russell in Japan. The seven-time world champion finished only ninth, confirming the difficult start to the season and poor feeling with the new Mercedes single-seater.
Hamilton, just 10 points collected in four races, after a few laps from the start decided to be overtaken by Russell, moreù fast than him: after the race he revealed that he did it of his own accord and not by team order, due to problems with his car.
"I think I suffered some damage in the beginning with Charles Leclerc, è passed on the outside. I had a lot of understeer in the first stint. I could not get the car to turn well in any corner. That’s whyé I let George" pass.
Hamilton è then couldnè get back up the slope and had to settle for being in the back of the pack: "Even if we had started on medium, then we would have had two terrible stints on hard. A real challenge today. The hard compound was not good, the medium was much better. So definitely in hindsight we should have had two sets of medium tires available. But in general the car was not going well today".
