Matteo Berrettini è back! Triumph in Marrakech after two years of fasting

Matteo Berrettini is back: the Roman tennis player crowned the week of his revival in Marrakech by triumphing in the final against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena. For the Italian tennis player è the eighth career title, the first in almost two years. Starting Monday, Berrettini, who will participate in the Monte Carlo tournament thanks to a wild card, will re-enter the top 85 in the world.

L'Azzurro è won in two sets over Carballes Baena with the scores of 7-5, 6-2 in less than an hour: during the week he had folded Navone, Sonego, Munar and Shevchenko.

Berrettini closed out the first set in an hour of play, finding the decisive break in the 11th game. His serve is still not at its best, the Roman cancelled several break points, but in the second set Berrettini played decidedly more loose, finding the break in the third game and in the fifth game, effectively closing the match also thanks to a few too many freebies from his opponent.

Berrettini thus returns to smile after two years: the last tournament won by the Italian dated back to the 2022 edition of Queen's in London.
