Novak Djokovic è ready to hand over the scepter to Jannik Sinner

Novak Djokovic is preparing to return to the court at the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, obviously with ambitions of victory, but the Serb, interviewed by Sky Sports, è aware that having to cede his throne of world tennis to Jannik Sinner è only a matter of time. Here are Nole’s words as reported by the Repubblica website.

"The fact that [Sinner] becomes world No. 1 è a matter of weeks. Ranking is not è my goal, this year I don't plan to play tournaments and accumulate points. My priority è è playing my best in the block from Roland Garros to the Us Open, via Wimbledon and the Olympics".

The one on the clay courts of the Principality’s Country Club will be Djokovic’s first tournament since his farewell to his coach Goran Ivanisevic and the forfeit at the Miami Masters 1000, after he exited prematurely at Indian Wells at the hands of Luca Nardi. Here is how Nole justifies his statement about Jannik soon dethroning him from the top of world tennis.

"Right now Sinner è the best player in the world by a distance, without any doubt. He lost only one match in 2024 and showed tremendous improvement in every area. He was hitting hard even before, the ball came out perfectly from both his forehand and backhand. At a certain point forò I am talking about the last six months, he was able to be more concrete, leave himself more margin, make fewer mistakes. Soì he started winning and he è no longer stopped".
