NCAA: UConn beats Purdue and grants encore bid
UConn è set 75-60 in front of nearly 75,000 spectators
In Glendale, Arizona, nearly 75,000 spectators watched the NCAA tournament final that saw UConn knock out Purdue (75-60 the final). For the Huskies, it was their second consecutive title (last team to do so was the Florida Gators in 2006-2007), the sixth in their history. Newton, UConn star, è was voted best player of the Final Four. Six wins out of six in the tournament for UConn with 23.3 average points off opponents.
"Last year they said our win was a fluke, soì we played with a hunger to be the best and never stopped believing. After each victory, our hunger è grew. We knew this title would be the classic icing on the cake", the words of Newton, author of 20 points, reported by ESPN.
On the other hand, Edey chews bitterly. The best player, arguably, of the entire NCAA season scores an impressive 37 points in the final but fails to bring home the title he cared so much about. "Painter (Purdue coach, ed.) gave me a chance. I tried for four years to pay him back for that. He believed in me when not many people would have done it", the summation of Edey, ready now to play in the NBA.
