Monte Carlo: Jannik Sinner rules Struff and flies to the quarters
Jannik Sinner – Jan-Lennard Struff 6-4 6-2
Jannik Sinner’s path to the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters continues smoothly. Indeed, the world number two defeated in two sets (6-4 6-2) German Jan-Lennard Struff, number 25 in the ATP rankings, after just over an hour and a quarter of play.
Sinner got off to a strong start immediately and broke Struff s serve in the third game, going up 2-1. The Italian, however, makes a few too many errors in the next game, allowing the German to get back into the set (2-2). On 4-4 però a new extension of the South Tyrolean è decisive for the conquest of the first partial, closed 6-4.
In the second set Sinner again gets the break in the third game. This time però the second seed in the seeding confirmed the lead (3-1) and then ramped up, repeating the break in the seventh game. Sinner then closes the score on serve at the first useful match point, making the second partial 6-2 his as well.
Jannik thus reaches the quarterfinals of the Principality’s Masters 1000 (for the third consecutive year) where he will face the winner of the challenge between Holger Rune, world number 7 and seventh seed, and Grigor Dimitrov, world number nine and ninth seed.
