Paralympic table soccer, Italian Super Cup ends in Varese

Great show in Rome

In the beautiful scenery of Rome's Tutt'Insieme Park, the second edition of the Italian Paralympic Table Football Supercup was staged, an event that ignited the spirits of more than 50 athletes from every corner of Italy. Organized by the Italian Paralympic Federation Calcio Balilla (FPICB), the competition, the first in the 2024 sports scene, saw the collaboration of the Tutt’Insieme Park and the National Italian Singers who made the spaces available, as well as the support of the Italian Paralympic Committee and the ITSF.

Triumphing in this edition è was the pair formed by Roberto Gabutti and Vincenzo Bonvissuto (of Polha Varese) who preceded teammates Paolo De Florio and Angelita Alves, with De Florio failing to defend the title they won last year, also at the Tutt’Insieme Park. On the’last step of the podium Daniele Riga (also third in the past edition) and Dino De Leo (ABR Calcio Balilla – Mediterranea Calcio Balilla). A special Sunday for the Varese team that, not only confirmed the 2023 title, but placed two pairs of athletes in the first two places.

The Italian Supercoppa di Calcio Balilla offered a spectacle of the highest level with the presence of two world champions (Daniele Riga and Corrado Montecaggi), with athletes who demonstrated not only extraordinary technical skills, but also a deep spirit of competition. The event brought together players from all parts of the country, creating a unique setting of diversity and passion for the sport.

"This second edition of the Italian Supercup è was a true triumph for Italian Paralympic table soccer,” said Francesco Bonanno, president of the Italian Paralympic Football Federation. “It was an extraordinary opportunity for our athletes to demonstrate their talent and determination, and we are extremely proud to have been able to host such an important event in the heart of our capital city. The Federation has proven to be a growing movement with a strong participation of athletes, many of whom are new faces who are entering this discipline for the first time. I could not wish for a better start to 2024 than this"
