The Mortirolo Pass could become "Cima Pantani"

The Mortirolo Pass, an alpine pass of epic climbs by cyclists at the Giro d'Italia, could soon also be named after the late champion of Emilia Romagna, Marco Pantani.

This was announced this evening by a superfan of the prematurely deceased cyclist, Lorenzo Tomasi of Montagna di Valtellina (Sondrio) in close contact with Tonina, the cyclist’s mother.

"The president of the Tourist Consortium, Gigi Negri, after the authorization received from Mrs. Tonina,” Tomasi explained, “hopes that the two municipalities of Mazzo in Valtellina and Monno, in the province of Brescia, will soon take the prescribed resolution to name the Mortirolo Pass 'Cima Pantani’”.

"Then it will be agreed with the various actors on the date of the unveiling of the new statue of Marco, which is being prepared, thanks also to the contributions that Gigi Negri is finding, and at the same time proceed to the official naming of the event.
