Domenico Pozzovivo is about to equal the record
There'è also the name of Domenico Pozzovivo among those selected by the VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizané team to participate in the 2024 edition of the Giro d'Italia. And for the group veteran, who turned 41 last Nov. 30, a record is looming: at the start in Venaria Reale next May 4, Pozzovivo will in fact be the second rider in history to participate eighteen times in the Corsa Rosa.
Only Wladimiro Panizza had so far succeeded in the feat, with eighteen participations between 1967 and 1985, with his best result being second place in 1980, behind only Bernard Hinault. Pozzovivo, on the other hand, participated in the Giro for the first time in 2005, while his best result è fifth place achieved on two occasions, in 2014 (winner Nairo Quintana) and 2018 (Chris Froome on the highest step of the podium).
Along with Domenico Pozzovivo, among the ranks of the VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizané team; at the Giro d'Italia 2024, there will be seven other riders, all Italians: Giulio Pellizzari, Enrico Zanoncello, Alessandro Tonelli, Filippo Fiorelli, Martin Marcellusi, Luca Covili and Manuele Tarozzi.
"The goal è the stage victory but we also want to focus on the general with Pozzovivo – clarified, to the team official channels, the general manager Roberto Reverberi -. We bet a lot on Pellizzari, who despite his young ageà showed great things at the Tour of the Alps. There'è great fellowship and team spirit and we want to do well, we have full confidence in our athletes".
