After Jannik Sinner, Madrid Masters 1000 also loses Daniil Medvedev to withdrawal
Daniil Medvedev leaves Madrid tournament due to injury
A seemingly decent start, then pain (at the height of the inner thigh) that became increasingly insistent, so much so that it proved to be a factor in the first set, lost 6-4. Soon after, the decision: Daniil Medvedev è withdrew from the Madrid Masters 1000, thus leaving the last available place for the semifinals to his opponent of the evening, Czech Jiri Lehecka.
As with Jannik Sinner, the tournament in the Spanish capital has to contend with an exceptional withdrawal, this one occurring (unlike with the South Tyrolean, who gave up success, by forfeit, to Felix Auger-Aliassime without taking the court) while play was in progress. Lehecka, number 31 in the ATP rankings, thus reaches his first semifinal at the Masters 1000 level.
The Czech will face Auger-Aliassime himself, a match from which will come the number of one of the two finalists who will go on to face the winner of the match between Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev. The latter becomes the tournament's highest seed, number 7.
Medvedev, No. 3 on the scoreboard, had remained the only one among the top six seeds still in the running. The other top seeds already out of the tournament are Jannik Sinner (1), Carlos Alcaraz (2), Sascha Zverev (4), Casper Ruud (5) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (6).
