Jannik Sinner away from Madrid, Felix Auger-Aliassime’s admission.
Felix Auger-Aliassime says he is "lucky" for Jannik Sinner’s forfeit
One of the surprises of the Madrid Masters 1000 è certainly represented by the path of Felix Auger-Aliassime: the Canadian, after a period of tarnishing, è in fact returned to the semifinals of an ATP tournament (the last one in Montpellier in February, lost to Bublik) and was also able to take advantage of Jannik Sinner’s forfeit to reach the penultimate act of the tournament in the Spanish capital.
At the press conference, Auger-Aliassime admitted, however, that he had luck on his side, since he did not have to cross arms with the Alto Adige native: "I was lucky that some circumstances forced Sinner not to take the court for our quarterfinal,” said the former Top 10 player. I don't think something like this has ever happened to me at this point in a tournament".
Auger-Aliassime è however, convinced of his own means, beyond the&39;lucky event: "Beating Casper Ruud (in the round of 16, ed.) è was crucial. I am experiencing a fairly complicated 2024, I started slow, but I think I am closer to my level. I have confidence in what I can do, I want to play everything in the semifinals".
Waiting for the Canadian will be another surprise of the tournament, Czech Jiri Lehecka: Rafa Nadal’s executioner in the round of 16, the world number 31 in turn overcame by forfeit Daniil Medvedev, who was forced to retire after one set due to a muscle injury. The other semifinal will instead see Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev face off.
