MotoGp-Assen, the marriage continues: the words of Carmelo Ezpeleta
MotoGp confirms Assen’s presence on the calendar
The MotoGP calendar will retain a stop at its "University" of Two Wheels" at least until 2031. In fact, MotoGp has renewed its agreement with TT Circuit Assen, the circuit in the Netherlands that, through various modifications that have brought it to its current 4,542-meter-long conformation, is still considered one of the most challenging tracks of the season.
"We are very happy to announce this long-term agreement to keep a race on the Assen circuit on the calendar,‖ said Carmelo Ezpeleta, MotoGp grand chief, to official MotoGP channels. It was part of the very first season, in 1949, no other place è been with us in these 75 years of racing that we celebrate in 2024. It's a unique circuit".
"Racing in Assen, even 100 years after the first races held there, remains something special,” Ezpeleta added, speaking of the track, located in the province of Drenthe. It's a fantastic and modern place that continues to give us incredible races and iconic moments, and there is no better mixture for the racing world".
The TT Circuit è was the only one to host the MotoGP in all seasons until 2019. In 2020, due to the rescheduling of the calendar for the Covid-19 pandemic, the World Championship organizers had to give up the Dutch trip. As of 2021, there è però be a return to racing in Assen, with two wins by Pecco Bagnaia (2022 and 2023), one by Fabio Quartararo (2021) and one in the 2023 sprint race by Marco Bezzecchi.
