Adriano Panatta on Jannik Sinner: "Had I been him, Rune would have told him to go to hell"

The weekly magazine “Oggi” dedicated its cover to Jannik Sinner and, in the midst of Sinnermania, è a very apt choice given that in five days the Internazionali d’Italia will begin at the Foro Italico in Rome and the fans will be all out to support the South Tyrolean even if there’s some alarm over the hip problem that made him withdraw from the Madrid Masters 1000.

Just for the popular weekly Lia Capizzi interviewed Adriano Panatta, the absolute idol of the Foro Italico, where he won the tournament in his memorable 1976, in which he also collected Roland Garros and the Davis Cup. Here are the words of the national Adriano on Sinner, reported by ubitennis.com.

“Now nobody will bother me anymore with the story of the’last Italian to win a Slam. Now they ask me about him, they yank me for a statement. I say, be careful not to trivialize, not to write anything of no interest just to talk about him”.

“Medvedev compliments him for improving his serve, the most difficult shot to work on according to him. Actually; è è the easiest, becauseé you do it from a standing position and without the influence of’the opponent. Serena Williams wishes she had Sinner’s forehand, but her best shot è the backhand”.

“Jannik è very reserved but so was I, the covers with the girls I used to suffer. He è certainly more controlled, less fuming: I Rune would tell him off right away, as I did with Nastase. Jannik ès first gift, however, is intelligence; è a sponge, always learning”.
