In a final played in an extraordinary way by both protagonists Iga Swiatek triumphs in the WTA 1000 in Madrid beating with the score of 7-5 4-6 7-6(7) Aryna Sabalenka taking revenge of the defeat of twelve months ago and consolidating her position on the throne of world tennis just over the Belarusian. For the Polish è it was the 20th triumph in a WTA major circuit tournament, the ninth in a 1000 and the seventh on clay. 

The match began with two breaks in the first two games, the first in Swiatek’s favor and the second in Sabalenka’s, then the Pole saved three break points of which the first two were consecutive, at 2-3, and the Belarusian saved from 15-40 in the next game. È then the world No. 1 to break on the second utie ball at 5-5 and then holds serve at 30. Sabalenka in the second set goes to 2-0 and then 3-1 but gets counter-break both times.

Iga looks more fresh but surprisingly Aryna on 5-4 30-30 places two winning shots brekks her opponent and extends the match to the third set. On 1-1 Sabalenka saves two break points, then è she goes ahead 3-1 but is immediately counter-breached. On 6-5 Swiatek serve Sabalenka has two non-consecutive match points, on the first she puts a forehand in the corridor, on the second Swiatek plays serve and forehand winner.

The right conclusion of a splendid match then comes at the tie-break in which Sabalenka cancels in her turnas a match point on 6-5 Swiatek and does so with an ace, on 7-6 Sabalenka third match point for the Belarusian who is forced to the error by the Polish. On the’8-7 Swiate Sabalenka goals long backhand and the Pole can’lie on the ground in joy after three hours and 12 mnutes of epic battle.
